July/August 2020

It’s been just over a month since I took the helm of our amazing Section. So, let me begin my first Chair’s Message by thanking you for trusting me with your Section. It’s an honor to serve.

As we move into the dog days of summer, I hope that you and your family are able to vacation or have some down time despite the challenges we’ve faced this year. I know that the officers and I took a breather after the hubbub before the Zoom Bar Convention – but what a success it was! In fact, this may have been one of our most highly attended Executive Council and Committee meetings. Thank you for attending and rolling with the punches.

At the Executive Council meeting last month, we also announced that Anthony C. Musto is this year’s James C. Adkins Award winner and Stephen R. Senn is this year’s John R. Hamilton Pro Bono Award winner. Please take a moment to congratulate them and read about their accomplishment here.

Please also note that at last month’s convention, we regrettably had to postpone our biennial retreat to Spring 2021. And after the convention, the committee planning the Eleventh Circuit Appellate Practice Institute (ECAPI) notified us that ECAPI has been also postponed to Fall 2021.

So here’s the key Save the Dates for the next year that everyone needs to put on their calendar:

September 23 & 24, 2020: Executive Council and Committee meetings by Zoom, time TBD
January 13-16, 2021: The Florida Bar Winter Meeting at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando
May 20-23, 2021: APS Biennial Retreat at Casa Monica Resort & Spa in St. Augustine
June 23-26, 2021: The Florida Bar Annual Convention at Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton
August 24-26, 2021: 2021 DCA Conference in Amelia Island
Fall 2021: ECAPI (tentatively)
We look forward to seeing you at these events!
