APS Tallahassee Outreach CLEs — May 9, May 21 and June 5, 2013

The Tallahassee Outreach Committee is holding three CLE seminars in May and June 2013:

• On May 21, Michael Ufferman of the Michael Ufferman Law Firm will present Criminal Appeals & Postconviction during a one-hour lunch CLE at The Florida Bar's Annex from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
• On June 5, Judge Stephanie Williams Ray of the First DCA, Meredith Charbula of the Attorney General's Office, and Christine Davis Graves of Carlton Fields will present a panel discussion on Preparing for Oral Argument — A View From Both Sides of the Bench from 3:30 until 4:30 at the First DCA's Multipurpose Room. A reception sponsored by Fox & Loquasto and TLH Consulting Group, LLC, will immediately follow the panel discussion from 4:30 until 6:00 p.m. All the First DCA judges and Florida Supreme Court justices are invited to attend the reception.

The cost for each CLE is $20 for APS members and $25 for nonmembers. To make a reservation to attend, please send a completed copy of the Registration form and your check made payable to The Florida Bar to:

Hot Topics in Appellate Practice — May 17, 2013

This seminar is designed to provide an update of issues currently affecting appellate practice in the state of Florida. This CLE is structured to give trial and appellate practitioners a view from sitting appellate judges.

Practicing Before the Supreme Court — Thursday, June 6, 2013, at The Florida Supreme Court

The lessons learned from attending this unique program, sponsored by the Appellate Practice Section, the Criminal Law Section and the Government Lawyer Section, can be applied to any judicial process. It is a full-day event held at Florida's Supreme Court building which provides the opportunity for you to interact with the Justices of the Florida Supreme Court. This Seminar will begin with an observation of an oral argument, followed by a discussion of the arguing attorneys involved in the case. The Justices will join the seminar for a question and answer discussion concerning the practice before the Court. Breakfast and lunch are included in the registration and the seminar will include sessions on oral arguments, ethical responsibilities, jurisdictional briefs, merits briefs and amicus briefs. This is a live presentation in which there is no audio or video recording.

To attend as a Government Lawyer Section member, Appellate Practice Section member, or Criminal Law Section member, the cost is only $185; non-section members cost is $215; full-time faculty or full-time law students pay $123; or if you are eligible for the fee waiver, the cost is $30.
