The Record Continues Online and Subject Area Expansion

The Record is now on the Section Website, via email PDF and hard copy. The Record is actively welcoming your articles and suggestions. The deadline for The Record Spring Issue is February 15, 2006. The deadline for The Record Summer Issue is June 15, 2006.


First District Court of Appeal
Online Oral Argument Archive Now Available

Judge Charles J. Kahn, Jr., Chief Judge of the First District Court of Appeal, reported that the First District now has audio and video recordings of oral arguments available Online from January 2004 to the present. Additionally, live video is streamed from the First District's courtroom when oral arguments are presented. Audio and video archive of oral arguments is generally made available within 24 hours of when the oral argument is held.

The Section will host the Appellate Certification Review Seminar this year at the Tampa Airport Marriott on February 3, 2006. If you are interested in board certification or just want a great appellate practice update, please check the Section's Website for details regarding the requirements.

The monthly lunchtime telephone seminars continue to be well-received and will be continued. Check the Section's Website for the schedule for the upcoming lunchtime telephone seminars and the directions for signing up for the entire series. They are held the third Tuesday of every month, starting at 12:10 p.m., for 50 minutes, ending at 1:00 p.m. These CLEs are conducted once each month, except for June and December.

Watch for details of the upcoming Administrative Appeals Seminar scheduled for April 7, 2006 in Tallahassee.

The Section hosted the Preservation of Error Seminar in Tampa, which was well-received. Audiotapes of the seminar are available for order at www.floridabar.org or by calling 850-561-5816.

Plans are underway to host the "Inside the Eleventh Circuit" Seminar in Atlanta this October 2006. In the coming months, the Section is also looking to host a "Hot Topics in Appellate Law" Seminar this Fall, 2006; and a Criminal Appellate Seminar in April 2006. The Section continues to explore the possibility of CLE programs on Workers' Compensation Appeals.
