Student Education Initiative

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee need your help!

The Project

As part of its exciting new Student Education Initiative, the Appellate Practice Section’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee is teaming up with high school, college, and law school students from around the state to interview a diverse selection of appellate judges via recorded Zoom sessions. We are looking for an equally diverse set of APS volunteers to (virtually) accompany these students in their interviews, help them along, and to be yet another point of contact and perhaps a short-term role model for young future lawyers. Once complete, these interviews will be edited and combined into a single 45-minute presentation to be distributed to schools and students throughout the state who have an interest in our practice and the judicial system.

Your Role

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee will team up APS volunteers with the students and judges. We will also provide the students with a uniform set of questions that all the interviewers will use (so that the interviews can be spliced together more easily). You will be responsible for coordinating an interview time with your student and judge and for helping your student conduct the recorded interview. We hope to have 12 interviews (2 for each DCA and the FSC).

Timeline and Sign-Up

All interviews should be completed no later than mid-March. In order to sign up for an interview slot, click here. Then, click the green “Sign Up” button followed by the orange “Submit and Sign Up” button at the bottom of your screen. Please include your first name, last name, email address, and any comments are also welcome. We will reach out to you with more information once we receive your submission!
